Q & A
You've got questions, we've got answers!
-
What problems can Hypnotherapy/NLP/RRT® help with?
A very broad array of emotional, mental, and physical illnesses, discomfort, or unease.
From allergies to chronic pain, from anxiety to hyperactivity, from infertility to relationship difficulties, from phobias to addictions.
The scope is WIDE.
-
Who can be treated?
Everyone! From little people as young as 4 years old to the senior crowd. The techniques and tools are adjusted to suit each individual and their needs.
-
What happens during a session?
I use multi-level communication with everyone, addressing both conscious understanding and unconscious processes. This means we discuss things that make sense to the conscious mind while also working at a deeper level using hypnosis, visualisation exercises, and other evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
-
How does being hypnotised feel?
Clients usually report feeling very relaxed, well aware of their surroundings yet feeling a sense of light sleepiness.
And… you are already practicing without knowing it.
When absorbed in reading a book, you reach the bottom of the page, and realise that you have not retained anything from what you have read.... you were in a state of hypnosis.
Trance is a natural state that we all experience every 90 minutes or so every day.
-
What does the hypnotherapist talk about?
At HypnoRooms, I combine hypnosis techniques, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), RRT® (Rapid Resolution Therapy), and coaching tools. I guide you through stories and metaphors designed with subtle messages that your unconscious mind can understand. Using carefully chosen words, tone, and structure tailored to your situation, I help your unconscious reset in a way that supports positive change and better functioning.
-
What happens to my mind during a session?
During the session, both your conscious and unconscious minds are gently guided to reset in a way that supports healthier patterns. You don’t need to do anything except respond if I ask a question—I do the work, and your mind naturally realigns itself for positive change.
-
Does it work?
There is now substantial research evidence showing that hypnotherapy, NLP, and RRT® can be highly effective for a wide range of issues. Medical hypnotherapy is even used in hospitals worldwide to perform procedures on patients who would normally require anaesthetics.
-
I am sceptical, will this be a problem?
If you have never tried hypnotherapy before, it is normal to have doubts about its effectiveness. A little bit of scepticism is good and natural however you must want to get better or improve the area of your life that is causing you problems for the session to have the best results.
-
Will I be receptive to Hypnosis?
There are several kinds of hypnosis. Directive hypnosis, like that used in shows, only works on about 20% of the population. The method and tools I use—some derived from the Eriksonian approach, others from Richard Bandler and John Grinder (NLP founders), and Dr Jon Connelly (RRT®), among others—are permissive and therapeutic and tend to be effective for a much wider range of people.
-
Can I change a behaviour without knowing what caused it?
Unlike the psychoanalytic approach, hypnotherapy does not look for WHY one feels bad, but rather HOW to get better. Hypnotherapy, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and RRT® make it possible to solve problems without necessarily having to systematically dig into one's past.
-
I fear having to revisit a childhood trauma, is this for me?
Hypnotherapy and RRT® work with past experiences in a subtle, non-intrusive way to clear the emotions and meanings attached to them, allowing problematic behaviours to dissolve. The focus is not on the origin of the issue—whether real or perceived—but on the emotions, meanings, and responses connected to it.
In fact, knowing the origin of the problem isn’t always necessary. The work centres instead on creating new solutions, perceptions, and emotional responses that support positive change.
-
How long will a session last and what is the frequency of subsequent sessions?
A session lasts between 45 minutes to 1h30 for adults, and 30 to 45 minutes for teenagers and children. The length allows enough time for the process to unfold; sometimes a small shift is all that’s needed, creating a domino effect that brings wider positive change.
The benefits can be immediate, though they may also take up to 3 weeks to fully unfold. In many cases, even one session can make a noticeable difference and help ease what has been a problem. Further sessions can help tackle any related issues that come up as part of the process.
If you wish to return, I usually recommend leaving at least 3 weeks between sessions, to allow the full effects to integrate.
-
Can you be hypnotized to do things you don’t want to do?
Hypnotherapy helps you strengthen positive thinking patterns that serve your best interests. I don’t tell you what to do or what to think — my role is to open doors and show you new perspectives that connect you to your own resources.
Your values and sense of right and wrong always stay with you, so you remain fully in control.
In short: no, you are never made to do anything against your will.
-
How will I feel at the end of a session?
Have you ever had a massage? Remember that lovely, relaxed state at the end?
A hypnotherapy session will make you feel the same way. It’s like a massage… for the mind.
-
Are there any side effects?
Only positive ones! You may start feeling these immediately after your appointment or more progressively over the weeks following your session.
People generally report a sensation of intense relaxation, lower anxiety levels, and generally feeling more empowered to make decisions that are in their best interests.
-
Can Hypnotherapy help with matters that may not be considered a problem? E.g. Performing better in sports competitions, taking a driving test, GCSEs, etc.
Hypnotherapy can enhance performance in sports, artistic pursuits, academic competitions, or exams. It can boost confidence, increase energy levels, and improve focus, enabling higher levels of achievement. Through a combination of powerful visualisations, subtle empowering messages, and key anchoring techniques, hypnotherapy provides support both in the lead-up to performance and at the moments when it is needed most.
-
How many sessions will I need?
Hypnotherapy and RRT® are considered brief therapies. One to three sessions are often enough to achieve noticeable results. I usually recommend leaving around three weeks between sessions, as this allows time for new positive habits and changes to take root and be experienced.
